How To Tell If Your Shoes Are Vegan ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ
This post is for consumers who are not buying shoes from certified vegan brands.  I am aware there is an issue with “made in china” footwear. Aside from Stella McCartney, I have *only* included the shoes I have from non vegan brands in this photo.
If you’re shopping for shoes there are typically two ways of to tell if your shoe is made with animal skins or not.
1โƒฃ  The most common way will be specifically labeled as “leather upper” or “genuine leather.” A leather shoe may also include vegan friendly materials like fabric, canvas, or other man made materials. It will probably read like: “Leather Upper. Sole Man Made Materials.”  This can be a sticker or etched on the bottom of the shoe. It can also be under the flap or at the back of the shoe. It should say on the shoe, in rare cases it will say on the box. If you’re totally unsure, find out the name or style number and google it. If I’m not 100% sure, I won’t bother.
It’s important to note that sometimes there will be glue used that is not vegan, but it won’t always say. Most exotic skins will say “snake skin” or “genuine crocodile” (ugh)
2โƒฃ The more sneaky way of labeling shoes is with symbols. If you see a symbol that looks like an animal hide laid out (the symbol on the top right) that means it is made with leather. You can also feel or smell the leather to tell if it’s real or fake. Vegan friendly shoes will say “man made materials” or sometimes “faux leather.”
Pretty much every high fashion shoe brand (Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, etc…) are made with leather and other exotic skins except for Stella McCartney. Her shoes are vegan and will say “Suitable For Vegetarians.”
If you made it through this post, you an telI I have a shoe obsession. For vegan style tips, I post a lot of vegan shoes on my main account @labellenuage. If you’re ever unsure (or google fails you), you can always ask me. I will be your Fairy Shoe Godmother. #vegansofig
