To those who say veganism does nothing and animals will still be killed, consider this: According to a new Harris Interactive study commissioned by the Vegetarian Resource Group, the number of vegans ✌in the United States has doubled since 2009 to 2.5% of the population. Over 7.5 million U.S. citizens now eat vegan diets that dous not include any animal products – no meat, poultry, fish, dairy or eggs. Close to 16 million, or 5%, identify as vegetarian, never eating meat, poultry or fish. 
Since vegans eat no animals, each vegan saves nearly 200 animals per year. That’s just in the United States. Consider the worldwide impact of veganism. 
With programs like Meatless Monday and “flexitarians” more people are eating vegan or vegetarian at least one night a week. Because of this, the total number of land animals killed and eaten by Americans decreased. According to USDA figures, US meat consumption is on track to fall by more than 12% from 2007 to the end of 2012 – about 165.5 pounds per person this year, or just under half a pound a day. 
Americans still consume more meat than nearly anyone else in the world, but consumption is declining – and people’s reasons for eating less meat have evolved in recent years. The rise of the cost meat is one reason, but for low and low-middle income groups, the most salient message was ‘if it would protect the health of my family, then yes, I’ll cut back’.” 
So don’t stop doing what you’re doing because it IS making a difference. Continue to live your cruelty free life and educate other on why veganism is so important. 🐷 Encourage your omnivore friends to cut back on animal flesh. Encourage your vegetarian friends to try eating vegan. They are listening. If animal rights doesn’t phase them, talk about health and sustainability. 
There’s not just one reason to go vegan, there’s every reason to go vegan. Cite example like cattle rancher turned vegan activist Howard Lyman (The Mad Cowboy). Invest in a copy of Forks Over Knives. 🍴
